Small Craft Emergency Response and Survival Training for Arctic Conditions
The SMACS project used the combined expertise of the partners in maritime training and search-and-rescue to develop an emergency response and survival training programme and manual focused on the needs of small-craft mariners on commercial, fishing and leisure vessels operating in the Harsh Arctic Maritime Regions.
The SMACs programme developed training packages and e-learning tools using both virtual simulators and practical scenarios, supported by advanced technologies. The training packages were designed for delivery by local training organizations across the entire NPP region. SMACs was the first joint project between the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) and the Nimbus Centre in CIT.
Project Start Date: 01 October 2012 Duration: 24 months
This was a collaborative international project under the Northern Periphery Programme of the European Union and is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
