Kevin O’Mahony, a researcher focusing on gestural control management systems for smart objects and environments at the Nimbus Centre, Cork Institute of Technology can see another potential stumbling block too.
”How can you select gestures that are meaningful for all users? he asked.
Focusing his work on ”freeform gestures, O’Mahony tells of experiments where he ”asked 20 or 30 volunteers how they would gesture to turn off and on a light switch”.
Some, he said ”swiped up and down, some shut their eyes and others mimicked the process of clicking the switch”.
O’Mahony added: ”With gesture technology there’s a need for more personal experience”.
