The Cork Institute of Technology invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Researcher at the Water Systems & Services Innovation Centre (WSSIC) based at the Nimbus Centre. This Centre is a significant partnership between Cork Institute of Technology, Cork County Council and Cork City Council. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking creative organisation that seeks to achieve real business and employment impact by developing new products and services in the water sector.
 
The role offers significant potential for professional development in technical and project management. The Researcher will report to the Co-ordinator of the Water Systems & Services Innovation Centre. Under the Co-ordinator’s guidance and direction, the key features of the Researcher’s role are as follows:-

  • Support the Co-ordinator in achieving the aims and objectives of the Centre;
  • Act as a contact point for Industry as required;
  • Actively promote and generate the targeted levels of industry engagement;
  • Identify and guide specific project opportunities to contract signature;
  • Manage specific projects from initiation to completion;
  • Research and develop ways to exploit innovative water sector technology opportunities;
  • Research and develop EU and National project funding and networking opportunities;
  • Assist in the development and deployment of processes and quality systems

Experience & Attributes Required

Essential:

  • Honours Level 8 degree in relevant field of Engineering or Science (e.g. environmental science, process/chemical/civil/environmental/control engineering, etc);
  • Relevant Industry experience 3+ years (not necessarily all in a water-related sector)

Desirable:

The Researcher will ideally have experience in the following areas:

  • Design in one or more aspects of the overall water/process sector, such as: water or wastewater engineering; process engineeering; environmental water quality; infrastructure networks; control systems; sensing technologies; etc.
  • Research funding mechanisms;
  • Interacting with and managing relationships with Clients;
  • A track record in project, as part of multi-disciplinary teams

The Researcher should also have / be able to demonstrate the following:

  • An understanding of emerging technology trends in the water sector;
  • Fluent spoken and written English, including technical report writing and communication skills for interaction with project partners;
  • Practical, assertive and achievement orientated with good self-management skills;
  • Ability to represent the Centre at events and conferences;
  • Good client relationship management skills;
  • A proven ability to work well in teams;
  • Ability to work on his/her own initiative to solve technical and logistical problems;
  • Ability to use project management tools and methodologies;
  • Familiarity with the usual range of office IT tools for email, document production, spreadsheets, presentations;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, and to be adaptable in working practice, which are essential

Salary

Based on experience in the range of €34,975 to €50,487 per annum
For exceptional candidates in the range of €52,716 to €66,924 per annum
